Dinogloss Scale Clean.

There are several good products on the market at the moment for keeping your pets claws and scales in good condition.  While not essential, these products can help to keep your pet looking clean and shiny.

The first product I shall look at is Dinogloss Scale Clean.  This comes in the standard 5, 10 or 25 gallon drums and includes an applicator in the form of a telescopic brush, extending from 6 to 20 feet.

At first sight, the applicator looks rather flimsy and not really up to the job, the manufacturers do say it is intended for one use only, and you get one with each drum of the product, but in the test we managed to break it in half long before the job was finished.  Although this does lose them a few points most owners will have their own set of more sturdy brushes, so this is not considered a major problem.

Now to the main test, the instructions say to first wash and thoroughly dry your pet.  They recommend their own product, Dinogloss Lowfoam Wash for the wash process, but as our test pet, the neighbours stegosaurus, did not like the smell of this, we used ordinary washing up liquid.

Having now washed and dried Sylvestor (the stegosaurus) we come to the application of the polish. First thing we noticed was the ease in which the drum of polish opened, a couple of good sturdy clips on the side make the removing and replacing of the lid a very easy matter indeed, not like some others we have tried in the past.  Having removed the lid, now comes the application.

Dinogloss Scale Cleaner comes as a fairly thick clear liquid, application is fairly easy and it does spread well although the brush supplied was not very good for getting in all the nooks and crannies around Sylvestors plates.  It took us about 3 hours to complete the job, this could be reduced by using better quality brushes. Having applied a good coat of Dinogloss your pet must then be allowed to dry off, the instructions do stress the importance of keeping your pet out of the sun while drying as this can cause the polish to bubble up and change colour.  So unless you have access to an aircraft hanger or something similar it is best to carry out the operation on a cloudy day

Another point we noticed was that the polish does remain quite sticky for some time after the application, this is not a problem if your pet, as Sylvestor, likes to remain upright while drying, but should your pet decide to roll over all sorts of things may get stuck to him.  A coating of dust, grass cuttings or dry leaves does tend to spoil the finish.

Having washed, dried and coated Sylvestor, what about the overall finish?  Well, on the whole, very good, a nice even overall gloss. Dirt and water repellent properties are very impressive and we would accept the manufacturers claim that one application should last for 3 months.

In summing up we feel that this is a reasonably good product, we have reservations about the quality of the supplied brush and the stickiness while drying but we were very pleased with the overall results.  The price of this product, while not the cheapest by far, is quite reasonable and we consider good value for your money.
